    Gharonda explores the lives of Sudip (Amol Palekar) and Chhaya (Zarina Wahab) who are middle class people in Mumbai and work in the same office. Chhaya is sharing a one-room flat with her younger brother, her elder brother and sister-in law. Sudip has rented a room with three other men. Sudip and Chhaya fall in love with each other and plan to get married as soon as they have their own house . In this process, they save every penny to buy a house. They go looking for a flat. After investing in a flat in one building, they are excited about their future. After a few months, the builder who is a fraud, absconds with their money. Sudip's roommate (Sadhu Mehar), who has also invested in the building, commits suicide. The building project is abandoned and all the money of investors goes down the drain. The couple is shocked and does not know how to react. They just cannot imagine having to start once again from scratch.

    Biography

    Shanker was born on 2 October 1933 in Bilaspur, Central Provinces and Berar, British India. He did his higher education in Nagpur and Mumbai. He got his Ph.D. from Nagpur University in 1964.[3][4]

    Shesh was associated with theatre from 1956 and remained associated throughout his life. While being appointed as the Chief Hindi Officer of State Bank of India in Mumbai, he continued to do playwriting and other creative work.[5] He was also fluent in Marathi Language and also translated some marathi plays in hindi.[6]

    Shesh died on 28 October 1981 in Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir.[7]
