Peter Michael Falk (September 16, – June 23, ) was an American film and television actor, singer and television director and producer. He is best known for his role as Lieutenant Columbo on the NBC/ABC series Columbo (–, –), for which he won four Primetime Emmy Awards (, , , ) and a Golden Globe Award (). In , TV Guide ranked Falk No. 21 on its 50 Greatest TV Stars of All Time list.[1] He received a posthumous star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in [2][3]
He first starred as Columbo in two 2-hour "World Premiere" TV pilots; the first with Gene Barry in and the second with Lee Grant in The show then aired as part of The NBC Mystery Movie series from to , and again on ABC from to [4]

Falk is a graduate of Brown University (Art History, ) and of the Rhode Island School of Design (Architecture, ). In , Falk began publishing Art Price Index International. In he became Editor-in-Chief of ArtNet and later Editor-in-Chief of AskArt. Since , he has been Consulting Editor to Artprice. He publishes reference books on American art under his Falk Art Reference imprint (formerly Sound View Press). He is also a professional appraiser.
